Free GEO audit: what AI crawlers see on your site.

An AI crawler never sees your website. It sees the HTML your server returned, and it does not run your JavaScript. The Bavior GEO audit reads your pages the way that crawler does, scores each one, and hands back the fix for every issue it finds.

GEO audit · input: your domain
The audit runs inside a free Bavior account — the box above is where the domain goes, and the run starts once you sign in. We fetch your key pages, score each one out of 100 on structured markup, content structure, meta and citation density, then email you the report: the score per page, every issue, and the fix for it. It is not instant. Fetching and scoring a set of pages takes time.

Bavior re-runs the audit every week, so you watch the score move after you ship the fixes instead of auditing once. Prices start at $99 per month billed monthly, or $79.17 per month billed yearly.

What a GEO audit is

A GEO audit checks whether an AI engine can fetch, parse and quote your pages. The Bavior GEO audit scores every page out of 100 on four things: structured markup, content structure, meta, and citation density. Each page comes back with its issues listed, and each issue comes back with the fix.

This is a code audit, not a content review. It answers one question: if an engine did land on this page, is anything in the way? It does not answer whether an engine lands on it at all. That is the other half of the job, and it is what the free AI visibility checker measures. Most sites need both numbers before they know which problem they actually have.

Every page scored out of 100 on the four things an AI crawler reads, worst first — because that is the order you fix them in. Open a row and the panel names each issue, with the exact fix under it. A page can score 96 and still never be fetched. This is the screen that tells you which crawlers actually came.

Not scored

Three things the audit does not score, and how to check them yourself.

The audit reads pages that come back. These three decide whether anything comes back at all, and each takes about a minute to check by hand. We would rather hand you the checks than pretend they are in the score.

01

Your robots.txt

Open yourdomain.com/robots.txt and search it for GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended. A Disallow on any of them is a decision, and often nobody on the team remembers making it. Nothing gets cited if nothing gets fetched.

02

What is in the HTML before JavaScript runs

View source on your most important page — not inspect element, view source — and search for a sentence you can see on screen. If it is not there, it was rendered by JavaScript, and most AI crawlers will never see it.¹ This is the single most expensive bug on this list.

03

Your CDN and firewall rules

Bot protection sits in front of your server, and some providers now block AI crawlers by default on newly onboarded domains. Your robots.txt can say yes while the edge says no. Check the bot rules in your CDN dashboard, not just the file at your root.

Evidence

Which GEO code fixes actually have evidence behind them?

Most GEO advice in 2026 is a checklist nobody has tested. Here is what the published work says about each item, including the two we ship on this site ourselves.

The fixWhat the published work showsWorth your time?
Server-rendered HTMLA network-level analysis of AI crawler traffic found no evidence that the ChatGPT or Claude crawlers execute JavaScript. They download JS files — about 11.5% and 23.8% of their requests — and never run them.¹Do this first
Headings, short paragraphs, one claim per blockNo study puts a number on it. It is what a retrieval system splits and quotes, and a quotable block is the unit an engine actually lifts.Do it, cheap
JSON-LD schemaA controlled test across 1,885 pages found no measurable AI-citation lift from adding schema on its own. Pages with schema do get cited more, but they are also the pages doing everything else right.²Do it for search, not for AI
An llms.txt fileAn analysis of 137,000 sites found 97% of llms.txt files were never fetched by an AI crawler. Google's search advocate called the file "not done for search".³ ⁴Ship it, expect nothing
Being in the pages engines already citeEngines answer out of the sources they retrieve. On most B2B SaaS questions those sources are third-party pages, and the most-cited domain in AI answers is Reddit.⁵This is the ceiling

Read the table in one line. Fixing your code moves you from unreadable to readable, and that is a floor, not a ceiling. Two of the five rows are worth doing today, one is worth doing for other reasons, one is nearly free and probably does nothing, and the last one is the only row that decides whether you get named at all.

After the audit

You fixed every issue and still are not cited. Now what?

This is the normal outcome, and it is not a failure of the audit. A clean page is a page an engine can use if it retrieves it. Retrieval is decided somewhere else: in the third-party pages the engine reads before it writes an answer. On most B2B SaaS questions those are Reddit threads, and the fix is to be in them. From there you have two options, and both keep every post under your approval.

Run it yourself with Bavior

Bavior finds the threads your category's answers are built from, reads each subreddit's rules, and drafts the reply in your voice. You approve it and publish from your own account. Starter costs $99 per month billed monthly, or $79.17 per month billed yearly.

Hand the execution to Bavior

Bavior's GEO service runs the same loop as a monthly engagement. It includes managed posting, which is priced separately from a plan, so our vetted accounts publish the approved posts instead of yours. You still approve every post before it goes out.

What this audit cannot tell you

The audit tells you what is wrong with your HTML. It cannot tell you what an engine will do with the fixed page, because no engine publishes how it picks sources and all of them change those rules often. So nobody can promise you a citation, Bavior included. What we can do is score the pages, name every issue, and re-score them each week so you can see whether the number moved.

FAQ

Questions about the Bavior GEO audit

What is a GEO audit?

A GEO audit checks whether generative engines can read and quote your pages. It is generative engine optimization applied to your own code: is the content in the HTML, is it structured in blocks an engine can lift, does the markup describe what the page is, and does the page carry sources. The Bavior GEO audit scores those four dimensions per page and lists the fixes.

Is the Bavior GEO audit really free?

The audit is free for one run, inside a free Bavior account. What we charge for is the recurring version: the same pages re-fetched and re-scored every week with the history kept. That is Bavior AI visibility, from $99 per month billed monthly, or $79.17 per month billed yearly.

How long does the audit take?

It is not instant, and we do not quote a turnaround we cannot hold to. The report arrives by email when the run is done. Fetching your pages, scoring each of them on four dimensions and writing the fix for every issue is real work rather than a queue.

Does the audit check my robots.txt or my CDN?

No. The score covers what is inside the page: markup, structure, meta and citation density. Crawler access lives outside the page, so we hand you those checks instead of pretending they are in the number. They take about a minute each and they are in the section above.

Do I need an llms.txt file?

Probably not, and we say that while publishing one ourselves. An analysis of 137,000 sites found 97% of llms.txt files were never fetched by an AI crawler, and Google's search advocate described the file as "not done for search".³ ⁴ It costs an hour to ship, so ship it if you like. Do not put it ahead of getting your content into the HTML.

Will fixing these issues get me cited by ChatGPT?

On its own, usually not. Fixing the code removes the reasons an engine cannot use your page. It does not give the engine a reason to retrieve it. Retrieval comes from the sources the engine already reads on your topic, which on most B2B SaaS questions means third-party threads rather than your own site. Both halves matter, and the code half is the one you fully control.

How is a GEO audit different from an SEO audit?

An SEO audit optimises a page to rank as a blue link, and it can assume a renderer: Google's crawler runs JavaScript. A GEO audit optimises a page to be quoted inside someone else's answer, and it cannot assume a renderer, because the AI crawlers largely do not run JavaScript.¹ The overlap is real, but a site can pass an SEO audit and still be invisible to an engine.
