Free Reddit Username Checker — See If a Handle Is Still Open

Bavior looks up one exact handle and tells you if it's still open on Reddit. If it's taken, it offers a close variation. Free with your account.

Username checker, in plain terms

A Reddit username checker looks up one exact handle. It tells you whether that handle is already registered. That is the whole job. It's a lookup, not a brand check. It can't tell you whether the name is a good idea for Reddit. That's a separate question, and the section below answers it. Reddit users judge a handle by a different standard than a domain or a company name.

Sample output

Two states — and a fallback if it's taken.

The status color is the whole answer. Green means the handle is open to register. Red means someone already holds it.

Open to register on Reddit right now.
u/marketingpro❌ Taken
Already registered by another account.

A close variation, still open to register.
What reads as spam

What usernames make people assume you're a marketing account?

Being available isn't the same as being trusted. These patterns make Redditors and mods assume the worst. That happens before you post a word.

The exact company name

A handle that is just your brand name reads as corporate on sight. Nobody has to read a comment first.

Numbers or underscores bolted on

"companyname_official" or "companyname2026" reads as a name grabbed in a hurry. It exists for one purpose: posting about that company.

No comment history at all

A brand-new account with zero comments and one promo post is the biggest tell. The username barely matters.

Generic buzzword names

Handles like "growthguru" or "saasexpert" get flagged just as fast. Experienced Redditors read them the way they read a brand name.

A name that only ever posts one link

A normal-sounding username still gets treated as a marketing account. All it takes is a post history that is nothing but the same domain.

None of this means you need a fake-sounding handle. It means the account needs real activity behind it first. A plain handle with real comment history reads as a person. A brand-perfect handle with nothing behind it reads as a campaign.

How it works

Three steps, one handle.

1

Enter a username

One handle, written exactly as you would register it. No keyword list, no setup.

2

We check Reddit

We look up that exact handle. Reddit either has it or it doesn't.

3

You get a clear answer

Available or taken. Plus a variation to try if it's gone.

Picking a username that lasts

The handle you keep for the long run.

Brandable

Close to your product name. People should know it on sight.

Available

Open today. Not a near-miss you have to patch with numbers or underscores.

No ban history

A fresh handle carries no old warnings, mutes, or subreddit bans.

Once the handle is registered

Bavior takes the next step for you.

An open handle is only the start. Turning it into an active Reddit presence is the harder part. That means posting consistently, in the right subreddits, without tripping the spam signals above. Bavior plans, posts, and reports around the clock. Every post waits on your approval and publishes from your own account. If you would rather not use your own, managed posting from Bavior's vetted accounts is a paid add-on.

What this checker can't do

It only confirms whether that exact name is already registered — Reddit itself is the final word, and a name can be claimed the moment after you check it. It also can't check trademark rights, so an available handle isn't automatically yours to use safely.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Is my Reddit username available?

Run the checker in Bavior on that exact handle — it comes back with open or taken, plus a close variation if someone already holds it.

What usernames look like marketing accounts on Reddit?

The exact company name, a name with numbers or "_official" bolted on, generic buzzwords like "growthguru," and any account whose whole post history is the same link — all read as a marketing account before anyone reads a word you've written.

Is the checker free?

It runs inside Bavior, as part of the free trial. Cancel anytime. Growing whatever handle you land on into an active Reddit presence is what Bavior does.

What if my desired username is taken?

We show a close variation you can check next — brandable, still on-topic, and free of prior ban history.

Should I register the account myself, or let Bavior handle it?

Either works — the checker just confirms the handle is open. On a plan you publish from the account you just registered. Managed posting from Bavior's vetted accounts is priced separately if you want it.
