Three-way · listening vs replying

Brand24 vs Awario: which covers Reddit properly, and when do you need neither?

One of these costs roughly seven times the other at entry level, and the expensive one's cheapest plan refreshes twice a day. That is the whole comparison in one sentence, and almost nobody writes it down.

The short answer

Choose Awario if you want a full listening suite cheaply, and Brand24 if a board or a client needs a defensible cross-channel report and you can fund the tier where realtime starts. Choose neither if Reddit threads go unanswered rather than unnoticed, because neither product writes or posts anything. On annual billing, Awario Starter is $29 a month for 3 topics and 30,000 mentions; Brand24 Individual is $199 for 3 keywords and 2,000 mentions, updating every 12 hours.12

Key takeaways
  • Brand24 gates refresh rate by tier: every 12 hours on Individual, hourly on Team at $299, realtime from Pro at $399.1 The fair comparison to Awario's $29 is the $399 plan.
  • Awario Starter carries 30,000 mentions a month against Brand24 Individual's 2,000, with Boolean search, white-label reports, API and an account manager on every plan. CSV export is the exception: Pro and Enterprise only.2
  • Awario surfaces Reddit threads that link your domain without naming your brand, which keyword-only monitoring never sees.3
  • Neither tool drafts a reply, posts one, or tells you which subreddits to be in.
The trap

What is the refresh-rate trap, and why does it decide this comparison?

Brand24's plan table gates update frequency by tier. Individual updates every 12 hours, Team every hour, and realtime starts at Pro.1 So the $199-a-month entry plan, the one most people compare against Awario's $29, is a twice-daily digest. If you buy social listening to catch a complaint before it spreads, that plan cannot do it at any price.

This matters more on Reddit than anywhere else. A thread's comment section is largely settled within a few hours, so arriving twelve hours later means arriving after the conversation formed its opinion. The fair comparison is Brand24 Pro at $399 against Awario Starter at $29, a fourteen-fold difference rather than a seven-fold one.

Nadia, a founder selling a $79-a-month scheduling tool, bought Brand24 Individual because it was the name she recognised. A thread in r/smallbusiness asking for alternatives to her category leader went up at 8am and reached her dashboard the next morning, by then 94 comments deep with the top two naming competitors. Nothing broke and the invoice was right: she had bought the tier whose published refresh rate is twelve hours. Illustrative numbers, published tier limit.

A correction to our own earlier version of this page

The 27 Aug 2026 draft of this article said Awario publishes no latency figure at all. That is wrong. Its Reddit page says new mentions are usually detected and added to your dashboard within a couple of minutes.3 “Usually” is not a service level, and it is softer than a tier-by-tier table, but it is a published number and we were unfair to say otherwise.

Reddit specifically

How well does each one actually cover Reddit?

Both include Reddit on every plan, which is not universal in this category. Brand24 lists Reddit in a source set running from Facebook and X through TikTok, Twitch, Quora, Medium, podcasts and review sites, with no tier restriction.1 Awario names ten sources, Reddit among them, and says it crawls over 13 billion web pages daily in addition to the APIs.2

Awario has one Reddit capability the other does not, and it is genuinely useful. Its Reddit page says it tracks backlinks to your domain across Reddit, surfacing every thread where someone has shared your URL regardless of how they framed it.3 Keyword-only monitoring misses exactly those threads, and they are often the highest-intent ones: somebody answering “what should I use for X” with a bare link.

Ines, a consultant selling a $2,400 onboarding audit, ran keyword alerts on her own name for a year and concluded Reddit was dead for her. Two weeks after switching to domain tracking she found a thread in r/SaaS where a stranger had answered an activation question with a bare link to her teardown post. Her name appeared nowhere in it, so a keyword tool would never have shown it. She replied and booked two calls. Illustrative numbers; the detection behaviour is documented.

Awario Leads describes itself as a real-time feed of people looking for products like yours, built from posts of the form “I'm looking for X services, any recommendations?”4 Brand24's equivalent strength is analytical: sentiment analysis, topic analysis and AI insights, plus PDF, CSV and PPTX exports an agency can hand to a client.1

Neither one finds subreddits for you

Brand24 reports which channels your mentions came from; it does not recommend communities to target. Awario identifies influencers and sorts mentions by sentiment across what you already collect. Neither answers “where should I be posting?”. Validate your specific subreddits during the trial: neither vendor publishes a Reddit coverage guarantee.

Price

What does each one actually cost?

Awario is $29 a month on annual billing and Brand24 is $199, but the fair comparison is Brand24 Pro at $399, because that is where realtime starts. Awario gives 30,000 mentions at its entry tier against Brand24's 2,000. Every figure below was read off both plan tables again on 30 Aug 2026.

PlanAnnualMonthlyKeywords / topicsMentionsRefresh
Awario Starter$29/mo$49/mo3 topics30,000/moMinutes, not published as an SLA
Awario Pro$89/mo$149/mo15 topics300,000/moMinutes, not published as an SLA

Brand24 Pro$399/mo$499/mo12 keywords40,000/moRealtime
Brand24 Business$599/mo$699/mo25 keywords100,000/moRealtime

Look at the mentions column, not just the price. Brand24 Individual allows 2,000 mentions a month; Awario Starter allows 30,000 for a seventh of the price. Awario also puts Boolean search, PDF and white-label reports, API access and an account manager on every plan including the $29 one, which are upsells almost everywhere else in this category.2

One correction to our 27 Aug 2026 version: we listed CSV export among the things Awario includes at every tier. Its plan table restricts CSV export to Pro and Enterprise. If you need raw rows out of the $29 plan, that is the limit that stops you.2

Two billing details. Brand24's annual pricing is not self-serve: its own FAQ says to start a free 14-day trial and then contact them to change the plan to an annual subscription.1 Awario's annual toggle advertises 40% off and is self-serve. Neither has a permanent free tier.

Limits

What happens when you hit the mention cap?

Brand24 will not bill you for it. Its FAQ says it never charges more than the price of the subscription plan you choose, and that if your account collects more mentions than your plan permits it will contact you to talk about a potential upgrade.1 Predictable invoice, capped data.

Awario behaves differently, and here we correct a second thing. Third-party reviews report that collection stops for a day when a topic hits its limit, or until you delete mentions to free space.5 Awario's own plan FAQ says otherwise: when capacity is reached it replaces the oldest mentions with newly found ones.2 Vendor documentation beats a secondary review, so expect rotation, not a stoppage.

Owen, the head of growth at an eleven-person data company, put his category name rather than his brand name into an Awario Starter topic. Starter stores 5,000 mentions per topic, and a broad category term filled that in under three weeks. When a customer forwarded him a critical thread eight days old, it had already rotated out and he could not pull the context back. Nothing told him anything had been dropped. Illustrative numbers; the 5,000-per-topic figure and the replacement behaviour are on the plan table.

The practical fix on either product: a broad category keyword is what burns the allowance, so set the Boolean query tightly on day one. Awario gives you Boolean on the cheapest plan specifically so you can.

Verdict

Which one should you pick?

Bavior if Reddit is where your buyers already are, because it is the only one of the three that answers the thread rather than logging it. Awario if you are one company watching one brand and price decides it; Brand24 if you must present a defensible cross-channel report and can budget the $399 Pro tier where realtime begins.

Choose Bavior if

  • Reddit is the channel that matters and the threads go unanswered, not unnoticed
  • You want the reply written and posted for you, after you approve it
  • The comments must come from an account you own and keep
  • You would rather have subreddit rules checked than a sentiment chart

Choose Awario if

  • You are one company watching one brand, and $29 versus $199 decides it
  • You want Boolean, sentiment, white-label reports and API without an upsell
  • Threads that link your domain without naming you matter to you
  • You want a lead-shaped feed rather than a reporting suite

Choose Brand24 if

  • You must present a defensible cross-channel report to a client or a board
  • You need TikTok, Twitch, Quora, podcasts and review sites, not just the big platforms
  • You want a published, tier-by-tier refresh rate rather than a claim
  • You can budget the Pro tier at $399 a month annual, where realtime starts

If Reddit is the source you actually care about, a general listening suite is the expensive way to buy it. Brand24 Individual is $199 a month for three keywords across a source list you will not read, and Awario is cheaper but still a general suite; neither writes or posts anything. At $99 Bavior costs less than either of those tiers and covers the half that changes the outcome. If all you want is the alert, that is a $0 to $30 purchase: see F5Bot vs Syften and the eight-tool roundup.

Unknowns

What could we not verify, and why does it matter?

01

Awario's trial length

Its plan FAQ describes what the trial contains, namely Starter access, up to 3 alerts, 30,000 mentions and no credit card, but not how many days it runs.2 Ask before planning an evaluation around it. Brand24 publishes 14 days.1

02

Whether Awario can reply on Reddit

The Leads page says you can start engaging with leads by replying to posts publicly or navigating to a profile to send a direct message, without naming the networks.4 The Reddit page describes only reading context: subreddit, snippet, upvote count, thread link.3 Assume Reddit replying is out until they say it is in.

03

Either vendor's Reddit coverage completeness

Neither publishes a coverage guarantee for Reddit. The only reliable test is to run your real subreddits and keywords during the trial and compare against searching Reddit by hand for the same week.

The half that changes the outcome

Which of the three actually answers the thread?

Only Bavior. Neither suite drafts a reply and neither posts one. Brand24's feature list runs from sentiment and topic analysis to exports and integrations, and describes no publishing anywhere.1 Neither finds communities for you either: they tell you where mentions already happened, not where you should be.

With either suite, reading the thread, checking the subreddit's rules, writing something that does not read like marketing and posting it all stay on your desk. Reddit's own rules ask you to abide by community rules and participate authentically in communities where you have a personal interest, which is a judgement somebody has to make thread by thread.6 That is exactly the work Bavior takes over, and it is why a mention you never answer is worth less than the alert cost to find it.

Bavior

$99/mo billed monthly · $79.17/mo billed annually (as of 27 Aug 2026)
Best when Reddit is the channel and nobody answers the threads

Bavior is not a listening suite and does not try to be one. It watches Reddit, scores each thread for buying intent, drafts the reply in your voice, and posts it on an account you control only after you approve it, with subreddit rules read first and a record of what went out. Brand24 and Awario tell you a conversation happened; this takes part in it. See brand monitoring and the approval gate.

Strong at
  • The half neither suite does: writing and posting the reply
  • Rules checked before anything posts, on accounts you own
  • Human approval and a record on every action
Not for you if
  • You need X, Instagram, TikTok, news or review sites, which both suites above cover and this does not
  • You need sentiment scoring or a client-ready cross-channel report
  • Nobody on the team will clear the approval queue

Choose it when Reddit is where your buyers are, you already know the threads, and the reason nothing happens is that writing a good comment takes forty minutes nobody has.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Is Brand24 realtime on the cheapest plan?

No. As of 30 August 2026, Brand24's Individual tier updates every 12 hours, which makes it a twice-daily digest at $199 a month on annual billing. Hourly updates start on Team at $299, and realtime starts on Pro at $399. This is published in Brand24's own plan table but is left out of almost every comparison article, and it is the single most expensive assumption you can make when comparing it to a cheaper tool.

Which is cheaper, Brand24 or Awario?

Awario, by a wide margin. Awario Starter is $29 a month on annual billing ($49 monthly) for 3 topics and 30,000 mentions. Brand24 Individual is $199 a month on annual billing ($249 monthly) for 3 keywords and 2,000 mentions. That is roughly seven times the price for a fifteenth of the mention allowance, and if you need realtime, the correct Brand24 comparison is the $399 Pro tier, which widens the gap further.

Does Awario really find Reddit threads that do not mention my brand?

That is what Awario says it does. Its Reddit page states that it tracks backlinks to your domain across Reddit and surfaces every thread where someone has shared your URL, regardless of how they framed it. That is a real gap in keyword-only monitoring: the thread where a stranger answers a recommendation request with a bare link to your site never contains your brand name, so a keyword tool never sees it. We have not independently measured how complete that detection is.

Can either tool reply to Reddit threads?

Brand24, no: nothing on its features or plan pages describes replying, engaging or publishing. Awario is less clear. Its Leads page says you can engage by replying to posts publicly or by opening a profile to send a direct message, without naming which networks that covers, while its own Reddit page describes only reading context: subreddit, post snippet, upvote count and a thread link. Assume Reddit replying is out until they publish otherwise.

If I only care about Reddit, should I buy either of these?

Probably not. Both are general social listening suites, so a large part of what you pay for is coverage of platforms you are not asking about. Brand24 Individual is $199 a month for three keywords across its whole source list. A dedicated Reddit alert tool costs between nothing and $30 a month: F5Bot's free tier covers 5 keywords at a two-hour delay, and Syften covers Reddit at under a minute for $29.95. Buy a suite when you genuinely need the cross-channel report.
